1. In what
ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
I researched into the opening of the thriller Killbill. They
inspired me to do a lot of the editing and mise en scene elements the way we
did. Just like our opening there isn’t a lot of information on the narrative
like Killbill. You are left in suspense with both, creating enigma.
The use of mise en scene in Kilbill is very interesting. It’s
in black and white, and has a clear light projection area, he face is half
fully lit and the other side is darker but you can still see it. The use of facial expressions from the woman
are incredible, you can see fear in her face, the use of props with the fake
blood on her creates enigma and builds a lot of tension alongside the diegetic
sound bridge of someone walking towards her. This shows her lack of power and
her vulnerability.
We showed the lack of power in ours by Nicki’s body language
and facial expressions. The lighting contrast between her and the therapist is
a lot, where the therapist is surrounded by bright lighting, Nicki’s lighting
is more dull and dark, reflecting their moods. The use of props is a chair
which also helps create the weakness of
Nicki because of it being so big in contrast to her it makes her look small and
vulnerable. We have a diegetic dialogue sequence but tension building pauses
between the characters speech.
