The lovely bones

Opening scene of the lovely bones
The first shot is a MCU of a snow globe. Inside the snow globe is a penguin. There is a non-diegetic slow pace soundtrack of a piano; this music is usually used to create a calm atmosphere. There is then a voice over of a girl who seems to be re living her childhood.

The second shot is a MLS of a small girl playing with toys, she is alone in the shot this is relevant as in the next shot the voice over starts, this shows the character is connected to the voice over, in this case the girl in voice over is talking about herself.

The Title of the movie is shown and the pace speeds up as the non-diegetic soundtrack is played. The soundtrack is a 70s rock song, completely changing the mood from a calm maybe even sad mood to a happy upbeat mood. The voice over is used to create enigma as the viewer is probably wondering why she is remembering back to her childhood.

There is an image of a house and then a sound affect of a camera shutter and a flash of light is shown through the window, this gives a slight moment of mystery as the noise is loud and the flash is very bright this type of shot that shows a room flashing through a window is usually used when indicating a gun has been fired. Shortly after tracking towards the house the set changes and we appear to be ‘inside the house’ this is obvious as it goes to a shot of the girl taking photos so the two shots are related, the other reason it is known that we are inside the house is the same camera shutter sound affect is used.
