prelim task ideas
Kayla sitting on a chair with her hands tied behind her back.
Heavy breathing and heartbeat soundtrack playing while the camera is on Kayla trying to get her hands free.
Track Claire's feet as she walks in - Claire walks in with her head down, heavy footsteps. you can see the shadow of her walking towards Kayla.
Kayla panics and starts fidgeting and becoming manic.
Claire slowly tilts up her head revealing the mask she is wearing and Kayla screams.
Claire slowly moves towards Kayla and walks around her.
Kayla tries to get free and aggressively tries to throw her body and to move the chair.
Claire puts her hand on kayla shoulder and walks around her till she's standing in front of her.
Claire slowly lowers a knife down her arm to her hand till the handle is in her hand.
Goes to a back shot of Claire with Kayla being seen at the off side pushing herself back into the chair trying to get away.
Reveal shot - Claire in the mask with her head down with the camera tilting up to show the mask .
Match on action -The camera is at a off side to Claire - she lifts her head up slowly and tilts it to the side.

Match on action example
Match on action (or cutting on action) is an editing technique for continuity editing in which one shot cuts to another shot portraying the action of the subject in the first shot. The match on action in this shot takes place between 23 and 24 seconds into the clip. The action matched is her lighting a match and the shot changes between a long MLS to a MS.
When using a match on action technique, it is enhanced by changing the shot distance and angle, this gives a more realistic view of the scene and keeps the piece together by being able to see what is happening with each character.

What is a shot-reverse-shot?
This video from Spider Man is a good example of shot-reverse-shot:
The Preliminary Task.
The Preliminary Task.
The specification
states that this must be:
‘ A continuity task involving filming and editing a
character opening a door, crossing a
room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom she/he
then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.’ The sequence must last no longer
than one minute.
This task
should demonstrate:
- Match on Action
- Shot/Reverse Shot
- The 180 degree Rule
You will also have to incorporate Music, dialogue
and sound effects into your film
All filming and editing must take place on campus,
using College equipment.
You will record your
learning and processes on a group blog, which you will continue into the Main
